TREE REMOVAL

When necessary you tree can be removed. In Bristol it is often necessary to dismantle trees by climbing them, carefully cutting then dropping the sections to an appropriate dropsite, or by rigging a lowering system to safely dismantle the tree without causing damage to adjacent buildings, furniture and plants.

The services below are often recommended together; so when approaching a tree for the first time we might suggest deadwooding, crown thinning, crown lifting and crown reduction together to achieve an overall result for your tree.

DEADWOODING

Removal of deadwood from the tree canopy. Essential maintenance for all trees. Dead and dying branches can provide pests and disease a route of access to the rest of the tree. They are best removed to allow the tree to seal and heal the wound.

CROWN THINNING

Removing any diseased branches, crossing or rubbing branches which may become diseased in the future; thinning out dense sections of branchwork in order to promote healthy airflow and a pleasing growth structure.

CROWN REDUCING

Reducing the height and spread of the entire tree crown; in Bristol many trees are maintained in this way to keep the tree proportionate to its site. It is important the reduction is carried out sympathetically in order to minimise risk to the trees long term health while achieving an attractive shape and canopy density.

CROWN LIFTING

Removing the lower branches of the canopy: Lifting the crown can allow more light beneath the tree allowing the plants there to flourish, as well as being aesthetically pleasing or simply practical in terms of allowing better access under the tree.

Tree pruning should not be undertaken lightly as any wound introduced to your tree is a potential site of infection and disease. Where pruning is necesary it is important to consider what you are hoping to achieve in the short, medium and long term. Trees react to being pruned and often pruning less from your tree will mean less maintenance in the medium and long term.

TREE/SHRUB SHAPING

For shaped tree canopies like Bay and Holly, we offer shaping services. See the gallery for examples.

IVY REMOVAL

Ivy can choke a tree, inhibiting its branch structure developing naturally and often blocking a lot of light. We can remove it for you.

BORDERS AND HEDGING

Where borders or hedges have grown beyond your ability or tool capacity to safely manage them, we have the experience and equipment to manage them for you.

TREE PLANTING

Giving your new tree its best possible start. Helping choose the best site, and provide the nourishment, support and drainage your tree will need to establish itself.

RECENT JOBS

BAY SHAPING

The client’s bay tree had grown substantially since its last shaping and was in need of attention. There was also a laurel under the tree which detracted from the effect of the Bay. We recommended removing the laurel and shaping the bay, as well as weeding the patio area and trimming back the border shrubbery.

MAGNOLIA CROWN THIN & CROWN LIFT

This clients magnolia tree was and is in rude health, but was hanging low over the pathway to the front door, and blocking a considerable amount of light from the house. We recommended and crown clean, light crown thin and a crown lift.

CROWN LIFT & REDUCTION

This client prunus was blocking all sunlight from a charming seating area in their garden. It had particularly thick foliage as a result of some unsympathetic pruning in the past. We recommended a crown clean, crown thin and crown reduction to allow dappled sunlight to the seating area as well as improving the overall appearance of the tree.

APPLE TREE REDUCTION

This clients apple tree was situated within a few metres of his house so blocking a lot of light from both his kitchen area and the garden. We recommended a crown clean, lift and reduction to allow the tree to continue to be appreciated while allowing more light to the area.
